Love Story

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Love Story is on my top ten list of favorite movies.  Other than the plot my favorite part of the movie of course is the wardrobe. Love Story does winter clothing better than any other movie with the coats, wool skirts and brightly colored tights. Here are a few stills.

Save The Watson Theatre

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Our town’s movie theatre sadly closed in September of 2009. The Watson Theatre means a lot to me. This is where Shayne and I first met and where we went on our first date over 12 years ago. It is sad to see such a wonderful piece of history gone. The Watson Theatre was built in 1940. It replaced The Gem which was built in 1912 but later burned down in 1934. It is one of the less than 300 single screen movie theatres left in the country.

The good news is that Matthias Sundberg, who grew up in Watsontown, wants to reopen the theatre. He has started a fundraiser to Save the Watson Theatre and to do so, he needs to raise $200,000 by March 15. From February 15 – March 15, 2010, donors can make pledges on Kickstarter.com. If you aren’t able to donate please help spread the word by tweeting, going to the fan page and becoming a fan, etc.

Dinner & A Movie : Masculin, Féminin + Salmon Cakes

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Chantal Goya plays the character of Madeleine Zimmer, a budding pop star in the 1966 film Masculin, Féminin directed by Jean-Luc Godard. She becomes involved with a young idealist named Paul and begins a ménage à quatre with her roommates.

Madeleine’s wardrobe is minimal yet stylish featuring lightweight sweaters, a tailored jacket and peter pan collars. All topped off with her heart locket, striped scarf and that wonderful haircut.

Pan-Fried Salmon Cakes

Ingredients:

  • 1 – 14.75 oz. can pink or red salmon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup cracker crumbs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 tsp. Old Bay Garlic & Herb seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
  • Vegetable Oil

Directions

  1. Drain salmon and remove skin and bones.
  2. Mix salmon, eggs, cracker crumbs, milk and parsley in medium bowl. Add salt, pepper and seasoning and mix until seasonings are incorporated.
  3. Divide mixture into six even portions, then pat into round cakes approx. 1/2 inch thick on wax paper.
  4. Heat 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in large skillet to 350 degrees. Place 2-3 salmon cakes in oil and fry until golden brown on each side, turning halfway through cooking, approx. 6 minutes. Drain on paper towels and repeat with remaining salmon cakes.
  5. Serve with tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, or aioli.

Serves 2-3
