Pyrex Obsession : Twin Server Set

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

This set of Pyrex casseroles is called Twin Server Set. It features two round cinderella 1.5 pint dishes that came with a brass carrying cradle. The pattern consists of a single leaf and a three leaf cluster in shades of blue and green.

The same pattern is used in another set called “Buffet Twins” but in that set the pattern is brown and has a different repeat. You can see both the Twin Server and Buffet Twins in the advertisement that I scanned below. It’s such a beautiful ad that I have it framed among some other old ads in my living room.

I found this set at a garage sale and was lucky because it came with the original box and a promotional pamphlet.  One of the casseroles had been through the dishwasher so I am still on the lookout for one that is in good condition.

Pyrex Obsession : Floral Bubbles

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

This is one of my favorite Pyrex pieces because it came with the original stand. There isn’t much information about this one out there. I’m not sure of it’s actual name. The clear lid is printed with a gorgeously retro flower pattern in shades of black and tan. The casserole base is yellow, the stand is made of brass with dual candle warmers and wooden handles.

Pyrex Obsession : Glamorama Ad

How beautiful is this Pyrex ad from 1955? I love the bright colors and the model’s dress is to die for. The ad shows a little bit of everything including the primary mixing bowls, bakeware, primary refrigerator set and the colorful dinnerware! Click on the image to see it in all of it’s full size glory.

Pyrex Obsession : Dot Bowls

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

This pattern is called New Dots and it is one of my favorites. Only seen on this set of mixing bowls, it features three bands of dots in shades of orange, yellow, blue and green on a white background. This was originally sold as a set of three bowls in 1967. The large green bowl was added later and can be a harder piece to find.

If you can find these as a set on ebay you will end up paying a crazy price. I pieced my set together finding them at different locations. The green and blue bowls at the farmer’s market, the yellow at a local antique shop and the orange one a caved and bought on ebay but only because I was so anxious to complete the set!

Name: New Dots
Type: 400 Series Mixing Bowl Set
Size: 1.5 pint #401, 1.5 quart #402, 2.5 quart #403 and 4 quart #404
Year: 1967

Pyrex Obsession : Country Home

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Ubiquitous in the 1950s and 1960s, vintage Pyrex mixing bowls, refrigerator sets, and casserole dishes are seeing a huge surge in popularity since they’re inexpensive, durable, easy-to-find, and retro-mod. The first set of primary-color mixing bowls came out in the late 1940s, with other colors, patterns, and shapes following through the 1970s. Today, most Pyrex items are clear.
